Catherine Ford is a British actress who was born in Bloomsbury. When her father's divorce from her family members, she was grew up by her mother, godparents and grandmother. As a child, she battled an obsessive-compulsive disorder that caused anxiety due to associations with words. Ford's passion for acting started when she was young. Ford joined the National Youth Theatre. She gained admission to the Sylvia Young Theatre School, but after just a few days, decided that she would not be a good choice for this school. Ford rather applied to the Central School of Speech and Drama and was able to secure an acceptance on her fourth application. Shaun Dingwall - who later played Pete Tyler in Doctor Who - was one of her classmates. Ford could graduate in 1993. However, she already made a TV appearance on a show in 1992 called Surgical Spirit. She adopted the name Catherine Tate. Through the Nineties, Tate could be seen on television in programmes like The Bill, Men Behaving Badly and London's Burning. Also, she was a regular performer in theatres, before eventually being a part of with the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate gained not long after her recognition for her stand-up comedy, which were added to Tate's show in the year 1996.
