Apollonia Kotero

Patricia Apollonia Kotero was an American model and singer. Kotero was also co-starring in Prince's 1984 film, Purple Rain. Most famously, she is known for her role in Prince's 1984 movie Purple Rain as well as being the singer-in-chief of Apollonia 6, a girl group. The actor and singer christened Apollonia by Prince was one of the many female performers in the 1980s to benefit from her association with Prince, the Purple One. Patricia Kotero, born 1959 in Santa Monica California began her career as a model and actress. In the late 70s she was a guest on CHiPS. In 1984, she was chosen to play the lead actress in Prince's Purple Rain. (During this time period, she changed her name.) She then replaced Vanity as a member of the female trio Vanity 6 which starred in the film with Apollonia 6 under their name. Sex Shooter, a minor-hit song in the film's soundtrack, was her greatest chart hit. Kotero broke off from Prince when they had an argument during the course of her career. Apollonia 6 broke up after their fallout. The singer then appeared in couple of films that were minor in the late 1980s (reportedly refusing an opportunity to play in the follow-up to Purple Rain Under the Cherry Moon) prior to settling for an evening-time part in the film Falcon Crest in 1985-1986. Apollonia made her debut album in 1988, however it was an average mix of dance and R&B music which did not impress the public. The album quickly disappeared out of sight. She continued acting (if somewhat unnoticed) throughout the following decade. The small roles on TV small films and exercise videos kept her busy. Apollonia recorded a Spanish/English Album named Stay With Me in 1997. When she returned to school, she received a bachelor's degree in filmmaking. Then she founded her own company.
